Introduction to Elon University’s Academic Calendar 

Elon education will challenge students’ perspectives and prepare them to be global change activists. Immersive experiences are weaved throughout the curriculum to help students connect their learning to the real world. 

Elon University’s vast academic programmes include over 70 undergraduate majors, nine graduate programmes, and a diverse range of interdisciplinary programmes and rewarding intellectual and research opportunities.

Important Dates to Note in Academic Calendar 

Fall 2023

• August 17-18: Student Orientation
• August 22: Classes Begin 
• October 5: Mid-Semester Assessments Due at 3:00 PM
• October 5: First Half Semester Courses End
• October 6: First Day of Second Half Semester Courses; Drop – Add Begins for Second Half Semester Courses
• October 16: Fall Break Ends at 8:00 AM
• October 31: Registration for Winter, Spring, & Summer 2024
• November 27: Thanksgiving Holiday Ends at 8:00 AM
• December 1: Classes End
• December 2: Reading Day
• December 4-8: Examinations

Winter 2024 

• January 4: Classes Begin; Drop-Add Begins
• January 5:  Drop -Add Ends at 11:59 PM
• January 17: Last Day to Withdraw from Courses with a “W”
• January 24: Classes End
• January 25: Examinations
• January 29: Grades Due at 12:00 PM

Spring 2024 

• February 1: Classes Begin for First Half Semester Courses and Thru Semester Courses; Drop-Add Begins
• March 4: Last day to withdraw from first half semester courses (grade of “W”)
• March 19: Mid-Semester Assessments Due at 3:00 PM
• March 19: Last Day of First Half Semester Courses

• April 12:  Last day to withdraw from Thru Term courses (grade of “W”)

• May 22: Graduate-Level Commencement Exercises
