How to know if there is traffic near you

Introduction

The real-time traffic status on Google Maps makes it simple to check for traffic delays. The function is accessible via Android, iOS, and the web.

Google Maps displays real-time traffic, allowing you to easily check for any delays. The live traffic data combines anonymous information about the position and speed of vehicles, which is then used to depict how congested traffic conditions are in real-time.

What to do on

A color-coded traffic map is used by Google Maps. To show different amounts of traffic, each street is labelled either green, orange, or red. Green denotes relatively clear roads, orange denotes medium traffic, and red denotes heavily packed routes.

On both the Android and iOS apps, Google Maps users may observe real traffic data. Open the Google Maps app and tap on the layers symbol, which looks like a stack of squares in the top-right corner of the app, to view this. From the bottom of the phone’s screen, a slide-out menu will appear. To view live traffic data, choose ‘Traffic’ from the available options and then shut the menu by touching the ‘x’ in the top-right corner of the pop-up menu. All roads on the map will now have color-coded lines showing their traffic status. Users can now enter their location and check the current traffic conditions as well as the anticipated trip time.

How to Use Google Maps to Check Traffic at Different Times

Google Maps provides a useful tool that allows users to check traffic at various times of the day. If a user has a doctor’s appointment in the evening, they can utilise this function to check the estimated traffic at that time. This makes it easier to plan ahead of time for vacation. Google Maps predicts journey times based on historical traffic data, so while real travel times may differ, users may get a sense of what to expect.

To check traffic at a different time, go to Google Maps and then press ‘Directions.’ Now, hit the three dots in the upper right corner and choose ‘Set depart or arrive time.’ Enter the departure or arrival time, then click ‘Finished.’ With a ‘Typically’ disclaimer, the map will give the approximate travel time. Google Maps also allows users to set a departure reminder. To do so, hit the three dots in the upper right corner and then select ‘Set a reminder to leave.’ Google Maps will then email users a reminder to leave based on their chosen arrival or departure time.
