Recent assessments of U. S. National security highlight significant gaps in military readiness for a major conflict. The National Defense Strategy Commission has determined that U. S. Armed forces are inadequate to secure victory in large-scale warfare. Navy: a gap in size and capability
The U. S. Navy faces significant challenges in maintaining its military dominance. Currently, it consists of only 297 ships, which is less than the rapidly expanding People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China. With a staggering $711 billion defense budget, China has significantly enhanced its military capabilities, including its nuclear arsenal. Meanwhile, Russia continues to intimidate its neighbors, and North Korea and Iran are expanding their military influence. The growing ties among these nations, particularly China’s support for Russia, increase the risk of multi-theater conflicts. In response, the Commission urges urgent measures to improve U. S. Military readiness, emphasizing the need for modernization and expansion of the armed forces. Additionally, a strategic reassessment of modern warfare is essential.
